The Texas A&M Santa Chiara Study Center, located in the beautiful Tuscany region of Italy, provides the perfect central location for students to interact with the Italian culture and experience the country’s rich history, art and architecture. The Summer I program provides a short-term opportunity to study Liberal Arts coursework in Italy while simultaneously exposing students to European culture.
This program is unique in that it offers a centralized campus community. The Texas A&M Santa Chiara Study Center allows students to live in a familiar setting within the beautiful hill town of Castiglion Fiorentino. The center sits on the south-east edge of the walled city, overlooking the vineyards and olive groves of the Val di Chiana. The city is of Etruscan origin with subsequent Roman development. The center includes dormitory accommodations with private bathrooms, classroom space, design studios, a theater, student lounges, a small library, administrative offices, and a dining room where you will enjoy authentic Italian cuisine. Castiglion Fiorentino is 63km south of Florence which is the city of origin for Renaissance art and architecture.
A total of 6 credit hours are offered for this program. Students will enroll in 2 of the following courses:
Minimum 2.5 GPA or the consent of the instructor
Juniors and seniors will be given priority, but Freshmen and Sophomores are highly encouraged to apply.
One-day and extended field trips are key components of this program, and provide students with the opportunity to experience Italy from a variety of perspectives. Possible field trips include:
Some free time will be included for independent trips to surrounding areas. Students are free to travel on their own on most weekends.
